Spacetime Fluctuations and the Cosmological Constant Problem
نویسنده
چکیده
Spacetime geometry is treated as a fluctuating, stochastic quantum system allowing an effective quantum gravity solution to the cosmological constant problem. A Fokker-Planck equation for the probability density of spacetime metric fluctuations is solved for an FRW universe and the most probable value for the metric scale factor R is for a very small cosmological constant. e-mail: [email protected]

Spacetimes admitting quasi-conformal curvature tensor
The object of the present paper is to study spacetimes admitting quasi-conformal curvature tensor. At first we prove that a quasi-conformally flat spacetime is Einstein and hence it is of constant curvature and the energy momentum tensor of such a spacetime satisfying Einstein's field equation with cosmological constant is covariant constant. Next, we prove that if the perfect flui...
متن کاملThe emergence of AdS2 from quantum fluctuations
We have shown how the quantization of two-dimensional quantum gravity with an action which contains only a positive cosmological constant and boundary cosmological constants leads to the emergence of a spacetime which can be described as a constant negative curvature spacetime with superimposed quantum fluctuations. Talk given by W. Westra at the Eleventh Marcel Grossmann Meeting on General Rel...

We show that the cosmological constant appears as a Lagrange multiplier if nature is described by a canonical noncommutative spacetime. It is thus an arbitrary parameter unrelated to the action and thus to vacuum fluctuations. The noncommutative algebra restricts general coordinate transformations to four-volume preserving non-commutative coordinate transformations. The noncommutative gravitati...

The current observations seem to suggest that the universe has a positive cosmological constant of the order of H 2 0 while the most natural value for the cosmological constant will be L −2 P where L P = (G¯ h/c 3) 1/2 is the Planck length. This reduction of the cosmological constant from L −2 P to L −2 P (L P H 0) 2 may be interpreted as due to the ability of quantum micro structure of spaceti...
متن کاملDark Energy and Its Implications for Gravity
The cosmological constant is the most economical candidate for dark energy. No other approach really alleviates the difficulties faced by the cosmological constant because, in all other attempts to model the dark energy, one still has to explain why the bulk cosmological constant (treated as a low-energy parameter in the action principle) is zero. I argue that the until the theory is made invar...
